I received a B.A. in Music at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. Piano was my emphasis. However, my main interest was and still is in composition and the creative process. I love improvising on the keyboard.
I first became interested in drums after making a Native American frame drum in a class taught by Wayne Manthey in the summer of 2003. Since then I have acquired djembes, tar, tam-tar, doumbek, congas, klong yaw, and tablas. I've taken conga lessons from Michael "Stix" Kiley at Ellis Drums in St. Paul. I'm currently taking doumbek and djembe lessons from Kenne Thomas. I performed as a percussionist in the 2007 Fringe Festival in a show called "Living the Questions." I also performed with "The Mamas" in January and February, 2008. Below are links to those performances. Drumming has long been recognized for its healing properties. Any repetitive exercise can be used for meditative purposes. The drum is a natural meditative tool for this reason. It is also quite expressive and can help heal feelings of powerlessness. If you are interested in participating in a drumming workshop, please check back on this site.
_________________________________________________________________________ I will be joining "The Mamas" as a guest artist on Saturday, January 26 at The Coffee Grounds at 8p.m. in Falcon Heights and on Friday, February, 29 at Dunn Brothers at 7p.m. in Roseville. For photos of the January concert go to www.blumenphoto.com.
I will be performing as one of the percussionists at the 2007 Fringe Festival reprisal of "Living the Questions" this spring and summer as stated below:
